Choosing Your Friends is Literally a Matter of Life and Death

Pick your friends as though you’re going to be a passenger in their car…because you kind of will be!

Many of you are heading into the weekend, and you’re about to be invited to do things with friends, maybe have a few drinks…and I’m not going to tell you not to.

Some of the best times of my life started with a random invitation early Friday night!

What I’ve come to realize is that structure in some parts of your life can create freedom in other parts of your life.

If you’re disciplined enough to create financial prosperity for yourself, for example, then you’ll have the freedom to say yes to the occasional weekend trip to the country, while the rest of your friends are too broke to leave their apartments.

That being said…

Don’t throw out all the hard work you’ve done this week, just so you can experience a few hours of “false freedom” at the bar on Friday and Saturday nights.

And ffs, be exceptionally discriminating when you’re deciding whose invitation to accept and whose to reject. Eight drinks with one friend could lead to the wildest, most memorable adventure of your life, and eight drinks with that “other” friend could literally lead to your death.

You’ve worked too hard — you’ve come too far — to throw it all away like this.

I don’t think that you will, I’m just saying that we rise and fall to the level of our friendships, and some advice I’ve found helpful is to choose your friends as though you’re going to be a passenger in their car.

Because you kind of will be.

We attach ourselves to the fortunes of our friends, and the right ones can raise us to levels we’d never dreamed possible, while the wrong choice of friends could be quite literally disastrous.

I’m not gonna preach, nothing like that. It’s just…as soft as this might sound…I care about every single person who reads what I write. I want your life to go well. I want you to get everything you’ve ever wanted, and I want you to reach back down, and lift up others to help them reach the same heights I’ve helped you reach.
