Thinking That “Time is Money” is Actually Keeping You Poor
Time is what your life is made of — it’s the water that you’re swimming in, and it’s the fire that consumes you (I stole that last part from Jorge Luis Borges).
Anyway, the full quote goes something like, “time is the river that carries me along, but I am the river; it is the tiger that destroys me, but I am the tiger; it is the fire that consumes me, but I am the fire.”
I love that passage, but he’s so right. Time is everything — it is also infinitely valuable, as opposed to money, which is easily replaceable.
So when I hear people say that “time is money,” I literally cringe, maybe even die a little inside — such sentiments represent death to the human spirit, even though I also believe that making money is incredibly important!
We have to make money, and the more money we make, the better life gets, both for ourselves and the people with whom we share it.
I love making money, and over the last few years, I’ve become pretty damn good at it. As in, “just bought myself a Porsche” good at it.
