Were You Shaken by the Book “Evicted,” by Matthew Desmond? Try These 4 Nonfiction Classics!

I almost made a terrible joke and put it right in the freakin’ title of this article —please forgive me.

I usually go with something like, “Enjoyed XYZ Book? Try These Books!” or something like that. I wanted to switch it up a bit, so at first I wrote, “Were You Moved by ‘Evicted,’ by Matthew Desmond?”

Wow. Close one! That’s why you read titles and headlines over again looking for hidden or second meanings!

Anyway, Evicted is certainly an important book, but the subject matter is not likely to draw laughs — at least not from concerned and caring individuals like you and I. It’s about the homelessness epidemic sweeping across America, a book for which Desmond won the Pulitzer Prize.

It’s such an important, worldview-altering book that I wrote a 5,300-word breakdown of Evicted for the Stairway to Wisdom.

If you’ve already read that book, though, or studied my breakdown, you might be looking for similarly transformative nonfiction titles, four of which it is my pleasure to introduce to you here!

For me, these were “edge piece” books in the study of Life, and I hope that you find value in these suggestions as well…
